A little more personal history. I met my future husband David at a "Night before the Wedding" party of mutual friends. David was throwing the party, I was an uninvited guest. His social circle was made up of Harvard intellectuals. I was the Home Economics teacher working in a Boston public middle school. (David not only got his Doctorate at HBS, but also taught at the Business School.) Whoah! Was I out of my league? Of course! Did I care? Not one bit! Once I met David, I knew he was the man I would love for the rest of my life. That was 1981 - twenty-five years ago, and we've been together ever since that night. Dreams do come true! I only taught for about 6 years. I loved teaching, but alas, cutbacks meant there was no longer a budget for things like Home Economics or Industrial Arts, and even Art and Music programs suffered greatly. After getting "pink-slipped" in three different school systems, I finally realized that my teaching career was coming to an end. Right about that same time, David (now my husband) left teaching at the Harvard Business School, in order to start his own consulting company . Luckily for us, his work involved a lot of glamorous (and not-so-glamorous) international travel, and so we took our lives on the road. He became a world-famous advisor to professional firms, and I became a professional tourist. We have spent the past 25 years discovering the world together! I hope that you eventually get back to teaching . . . we need dedicated, effective teachers. I checked out David's site. Lots of great information there. I will visit more later. For now, I already bookmarked a blog post about dealing with problem employees that I'm going to share with my colleagues. Did you have any culinary exchanges there (did you teach others about american cuisine, or take any type of international culinary class?)? Kathy Maister | posted on Mar 24, 2007 The list of countries we have visited is amazingly long with many return visits. (England and Australia are probably the most visited, and loved, countries on our list!) The only international cooking lessons I’ve taken were in Bangkok. They were amazing! I mostly spent my time taking classes on many different types of hand work, but that another story… online stock market trading broker | posted on Apr 7, 2008 What a wonderful love story! If only we would all get to live such moments in our lifes...I first saw my boyfriend at a friend's house. I thought to myself this guy is too good for that boring party and asked him to go do something fun. He said yes. Next thing it was 6 a.m. and we were drunk on the balcony of a museum. Don't really remember who I bribed to go there but it was fun. We're together ever since and we plan to get married. Post a Comment2 trackbacksTrackback URL:http://startcooking.com/trackback.php?id=8

Kathy, you and David make such a tremendous team. It is a pleasure to see you in action together. I wish that all my friends could wind up marrying so well.
(I’d be jealous—if I hadn’t married my dream husband, too!)
